Established in 1922, Troop 7 is the oldest Boy Scout troop in South Florida and the third oldest troop in the United States. Because the troop is older than South Florida Council, Troop 7 scouts display the Coral Gables patch on the sleeve of their uniform, rather than the council patch. In 2007, Troop 7 achieved 85 years of continuity, represented by the 85 patch.

When a scout reaches the rank of First Class in Troop 7, he receives this unique embroidered neckerchief depicting the original log cabin, plus a commemorative pin to be worn on their lapel.
